16th-Ranked Women’s Golf to Wrap up Fall Slate at Illinois-Springfield Island Getaway

ANDERSON, S.C. – Two weeks after claiming its second win of the fall season, the Anderson University women's golf team is slated to compete at the Illinois-Springfield Island Getaway, Monday and Tuesday at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Resort in Puerto Rico.

The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted two years ago on the par-71, 6,083 yard Ocean Course.

As a freshman, Kate Hill claimed a share of third place to lead the Trojans to a fifth-place finish in their last appearance in the tourney (2016), while Tarleton State won the team title.

Tiffany Elam finished in a tie for 12th two years ago, with Makalyn Poole taking the 33rd spot and Samantha Ellison finishing in a tie for 37th place.

Program records have been in jeopardy throughout the Trojans' entire fall slate, with the Black and Gold eclipsing school records in every tournament. The Trojans posted a school record on two occasions last year, with a 295 as the 18-hole record. The Trojans eclipsed that mark with a second-round 293 at the AU Invitational, then bettered their own school record with a final-round 291 a month later at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.

Two weeks ago, the Trojans posted a school-record 287 in the mountains of North Georgia, while marking a LeeAnn Noble Memorial tournament-record for 18 holes, as well as a tourney record 584 for the 36-hole event.

Sophomore Anna Freeman paced the Trojans with a runner-up finish, while Elam claimed a share of eighth place. Freshman Kerington Lamb carded a career-best score for the second consecutive round and finished alongside Elam in a tie for eighth place. Freshman Victoria Hall equaled her season-best two-round effort and claimed a share of 13th place, while Poole finished in a tie for 29th. Hill shared the 29th spot.

Through six rounds, Freeman leads the team with a 73.17 stroke average, while Hill is close behind with a 74.50 stroke average. Elam holds a 74.83 stroke average and Hall has recorded a 75.83 average
