DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Led by sophomore Anna Freeman's season-best, two-under-par 70, the Anderson women's golf team leads the Fifth Annual LeeAnn Noble Memorial by five strokes following opening-round action, Monday.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by North Georgia at the par 72, 5,934 yard Achasta Golf Club.
The Trojans, who are bidding for their second title of the fall season, hold a five-stroke lead over Converse, with Young Harris and Newberry tied for third - two shots further back. Catawba is fifth, while Columbus State holds the sixth slot.
The host Nighthawks and West Georgia are deadlocked in seventh place, with Montevallo in ninth. Lander, Lincoln Memorial, Southern Wesleyan, King and Erskine round out the 14-team field.
Freeman eclipsed her previous best round (71) by one stroke and sits in second place, just one stroke behind Converse's Tyler Dawson, who fired a three-under-par 69. Emma Anderson, from Young Harris, is one shot further back in third place. The trio were the only three golfers to card below-par scores on the day.
Freshman Kerington Lamb posted a career-best 74 and shares ninth place, while fellow freshman Victoria Hall is tied for 15th following a first-round 3-over-par 75.
Senior Tiffany Elam is in a nine-way tie for 30th after notching a 6-over-par 78, while junior Kate Hill shares 66th place after carding an opening-round 85.
The final round will get underway Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
