ANDERSON, S.C. – Junior Kate Hill rallied from five strokes off the pace to post a school-record 4-under-par 68 and win individual honors, while leading the Anderson University women's golf team to its second straight AU Invitational title.
The Trojans hosted the two-day event on a 5,825 yard, par-72 Cobb's Glen Country Club layout.
After setting school records twice last season, AU is off to a stellar start this year, as the Trojans posted a program-record round on Tuesday with a final-round 293, which bettered their old record by two strokes.
The host Trojans won by a comfortable 38-shot margin over Catawba, with longtime rival Erskine holding third place – five shots further back. Converse remained in fourth place, while King moved up one spot to claim fifth place.
Belmont Abbey slipped to sixth, with Southern Wesleyan, Emmanuel and Spartanburg Methodist finishing out the nine-team field.
Hill (79-68=147), who began the day in seventh place, was the only golfer to post a below-par score during the two-round tournament and edged teammate Anna Freeman (75-74=149) by two strokes. Senior Tiffany Elam (75-74=149) claimed third place, while freshman Kerington Lamb (75-77=152) was fourth. Erskine's Anna Parramore, the first-round leader, slipped into a fifth-place tie with Catawba's Sarah Coltrane after each carded two-day 153s.
AU freshman Victoria Hall (81-76=157) trimmed five strokes off Monday's opening round and finished ninth, with senior Makalyn Poole shaving six shots off Monday's round and posting a two-day 158, while sharing 10th place. Senior Samantha Ellison recorded a two-day 167 and finished in a tie for 24th.
Following a four-week layoff, Anderson will get back in action at Catawba's Patsy Rendleman Invitational, which is scheduled to be hosted at the Country Club of Salisbury.
