Anderson University Named NCAA Division II National Winner for 2019 Play4Kay Initiative

RALEIGH, N.C. – Anderson University was recognized as the DII 2019 Play4Kay National winner as part of the NCAA Women's Final Four and WBCA National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Play4Kay is the Fund's largest fundraiser and events are hosted in all 50 states. Because of the nationwide support of participating Play4Kay teams, fans, and communities, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded $7.53 million in the fight against ALL cancers affecting women.

Representatives from the following schools were recognized today for their significant fundraising efforts on behalf of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund:

Division I BCS: Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX)

Division I Non-BCS: Illinois State University (Bloomington-Normal, IL)

Division II: Anderson University (Anderson, SC)

Division III: Moravian College (Bethlehem, PA)

NAIA: Faulkner University (Montgomery, AL)

Junior College/Community College: Dawson Community College (Glendive, MT)

K-12: Akin Elementary School (Hale Center, TX)

"Play4Kay was Coach Kay Yow's vision. She saw this initiative as a way to unite the country in support of all women battling cancer. She wanted to use her platform to give strength to others--to lift up and encourage survivors. Due to the amazing support of teams from communities big and small, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has been able to award $7.53 million on behalf of women's basketball in the fight against all women's cancers," said Stephanie Glance, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. "We are so appreciative of the ongoing support from our 2019 national winners and all of our participating schools. Funding from Play4Kay is making a difference and directly impacting the lives of others."

For the second time in seven years – and first time since 2013 - Anderson raised the highest amount among the South Atlantic Conference schools with a total of $6,305.00, which marks the largest amount raised in the 10 years of the SAC Play4Kay events. Anderson University was recognized for their efforts at the 2019 SAC Basketball Tournament in Greenville, SC on Saturday March 9th.

Other SAC schools that raised impressive amounts for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund this year were:

Lincoln Memorial - $1,344 (Winners 2011, 2012, 2015, 2018)
Wingate - $1,000
Carson-Newman - $1,000

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on December 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization's namesake, Kay Yow, former NC State University head women's basketball coach. Coach Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 before succumbing to the disease on January 24, 2009.
