Dillard Earns South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University women's basketball standout Alexis Dillard has been selected as the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year, an award which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics, service and leadership.

The SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each of the conference's 18 championship sports. The awards are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee.

Dillard finished up her final year of eligibility this year as a graduate student holding a 4.0 GPA while working towards her Masters of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education.

"Alexis has been a valuable member of our women's basketball team", said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "I am really happy she had the opportunity to come back after experiencing such a devastating injury last year. Alexis's numbers in our record book speak to how valuable of a player she was to this program. Her commitment is just as noted in the classroom. Alexis is not a player you can replace, you just hope someone can step into her shoes and keep it going."

Dillard's was most recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team.

Dillard started all 31 games for the Black and Gold. The forward averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while leading the South Atlantic Conference in field goal percentage (54.9%). Dillard was named to the All-SAC First Team and was the Defensive Player of the Year. Dillard's name moved up many Anderson all-time statistical categories on the season most recently becoming AU's all-time career rebound leader.

The native of Taylors, S.C., has stayed active off the court and in the community serving as a worship leader and reading scriptures at her local church. Dillard has participated in several youth basketball instructional workouts and camps, including working at Wofford College's basketball camp. Dillard also volunteers at Taylors Elementary, reading to children and helping out with Field Day. The Trojan forward has also been a guest speaker at Greenville High School and has been on the College Panel at Back to School Night at her church, where she spoke about being a collegiate student-athlete.
