Trojans Slotted Seventh in First NCAA Regional Rankings of the Season

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA released its first regional rankings Wednesday afternoon with Anderson University laying claim to the No.7 slot.

The selection committee uses these rankings as a guideline to make up the NCAA Tournament field. The top eight teams in the region make the NCAA Tournament with three automatic bids going to the winners of the conference tournaments from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

Fellow SAC member Carson-Newman and Wingate hold the first two spots, respectively while PBC member North Georgia and Lander land in the third and fourth slots. Barton claims the highest CC position by landing fifth with fellow CC member Limestone sitting in the sixth position. Anderson holds down the seventh slot with Flagler, Georgia College and Tusculum rounding out the top-10.

Anderson has an opportunity to shake up the poll with a road contest Saturday at No. 2 Wingate followed by a Wednesday home contest versus No. 10 Tusculum.

The final regional poll prior to the selection show will be released in the afternoon on Feb. 28.
