HARROGATE, Tenn. – Slow third quarter proves costly, as the Anderson University women's basketball team drops a road SAC contest, 71-68, against Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday evening at the Tex Turner Arena.
With the setback, Anderson falls to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in conference action while Lincoln Memorial improves to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in SAC play.
Anderson junior Erika Martin paced the Trojans with 12 points and a season-high eight rebounds while sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer chipped in 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Lincoln Memorial placed three players in double-figures with Shea Coker and Emily Griffith sharing game-high honors with 16 points apiece. Guard Ross Mathis netted 12 points for the Railsplitters.
Anderson led the majority of the first half claiming a 40-32 lead at intermission. However, the Railsplitters came out of the gates in the third period erasing the eight-point deficit and taking a one-point advantage in the first 2 minutes of play.
Lincoln Memorial extended its lead to nine during early fourth quarter action. The Trojans settled in and began to slowly chip away pulling within two on a made jumper by Kaylee Koerperich with 3:36 remaining in the game and then again cutting the lead to two after Madison Baggett drained a 3-point basket with 23 ticks left in the game.
The Railsplitters left the door open for the Black and Gold missing 3-of-4 foul shots in the last 18 seconds with Anderson getting two good looks. However, both 3-point attempts were just off the mark.
