Trojans Team Effort Leads to Victory over Queens; 79-60

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball team put together a solid all around team effort to down South Atlantic Conference opponent Queens, 79-60, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in SAC play while the Royals fall to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Graduate student Alexis Dillard led all scorers with a season-high 22 points while ripping down 15 rebounds. Dillard has posted four double-doubles on the season with 15 total for her career. Sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer netted 18 points with four rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal.

Capping off the Trojans' scoring was junior Ace Easter with eight points while grabbling five rebounds. Senior Kaylee Koerperich, junior Erika Martin and sophomore Hannah Hodges each dropped in six points with Koerperich and Martin collecting seven and six rebounds, respectively. Sophomore Makayla Green and freshman Taylor Hair chipped in four points apiece with sophomore Madison Baggett dropping in three points while being credited with four steals, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Freshman Jennifer Bollinger scored the Trojans final bucket of the game.

Queens placed four players in double-figures with Ceara Leavai scoring a team-high 17 points followed by Herning Wang and Lade Adepoju's 11 point effort. Reserve Kristina Eanes chipped in 10 points for the Royals.

The Trojans controlled the game from the start running away from the Royals 23-9 in the first period. The Black and Gold gained an even larger lead heading into half-time, 48-25.

The Royals came out of the half using an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 15. Anderson was able to halt the run and push the lead back to 18 by the end of third quarter action.

The Trojans stretched the lead to the largest of the game, 75-47, with 5:31 left in the final frame. However, Queens used three made 3-point baskets over the final five minutes to bring the final score to under 20 points.

Head Coach Jonathon Barbaree's Thoughts: "I thought we were focused and responded well, considering we are in the middle of final exams. We played a solid game on both ends. We will get back to studying for exams and then back at it on Monday."

Anderson finishes up its three-game homestand when it host SAC foe Newberry on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
