ANDERSON, S.C. – Despite holding the top scoring offense in the nation to its second lowest point total and second lowest field goal percentage of the year, the Anderson women's basketball team could not match its effort on the offensive end falling, 72-56, to South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman on Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.
With the setback, Anderson drops to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in SAC play while the Eagles improve to a perfect 10-0 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
Junior Ace Easter was the lone Trojan to reach double-figures scoring a team-high 14 points. Easter converted 7-of-8 foul shots while grabbing three rebounds for the Black and Gold.
Capping off the Trojans' scoring was sophomore Madison Baggett with nine points. Baggett grabbed five rebounds while dishing out two assists. Graduate student Alexis Dillard and junior Erika Martin each chipped in six points while Dillard ripped down 10 rebounds on the night. Sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer netted five points and was credited with three steals. Seniors Kaylee Koerperich and Jasmine Raynor, sophomore Hannah Hodges and freshman Taylor Hair each dropped in four points for Anderson. Hair also grabbed eight rebounds in her 17 minutes of action.
Carson-Newman placed two players in double-figures with Mika Wester scoring a game-high 21 points followed by Haris Price's 19 point effort. Kayla Marosites and Jessica Simerly pulled down 13 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Trojans could not overcome their three quarters of shooting woes. Carson-Newman led at the half by a score of, 35-16, and then increased its lead to, 57-29, at the conclusion of the third period.
Anderson was able to find a little rhythm in the fourth quarter outscoring the Eagles 27-15. However, the lead proved to be insurmountable with the Trojans falling, 72-56.
