Women’s Basketball Picks up Win at Young Harris; 56-43

 

ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by fifth-year senior Alexis Dillard's game-high 17 points and nine rebounds, the Anderson University women's basketball team defeated Peach Belt Conference opponent Young Harris, 56-43, Tuesday evening at the YHC Basketball Arena.

With the win, Anderson improves to 5-2 on the season while the Mountain Lions fall to 3-4 overall.

The Trojans placed two players in double-digits with Dillard's game-high 17 points and senior Kaylee Koerperich's career high 13 points. Koerperich shot 4-of-6 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Capping off the Trojans' scoring was junior Ace Easter (6), sophomore Madison Baggett (5), senior Jasmine Raynor and freshman Taylor Hair (4), sophomore Makalya Green (3) and junior Erika Martin and sophomore Alexy Mollenhaurer (2). Sophomore Hannah Hodges contributed by pulling down five rebounds in six minutes of action for the Black and Gold.

Young Harris placed two players in double-figures with Ge'Naisha Robinson connecting on 5-of-10 from the floor and dropping in two foul shots to score a team-high 14 points. Briana Bell chipped in 10 points while pulling down four rebounds for the Mountain Lions.

Anderson was able to pull away heading into the half with a 29-20 lead. The Trojans pushed the lead to 11 twice before the Mountain Lions went on a 12-0 run to reclaim the lead, 41-40. Two made free throws by AU's Hair closed the third quarter with the Black and Gold leading, 42-41.

Young Harris only scored one basket in the fourth quarter shooting a dismal 5% (1-20) from the floor. Anderson was able to extend its lead winning, 56-43.

-With five defensive rebounds, Dillard moves to 3rd all-time in career total defensive rebounds at Anderson with 498. Dillard also slides up to the eighth spot for all-time career offensive rebounds (231).
-The Black and Gold are 5-0 when leading at the half.
