Trojans Fall in Exhibition to Elon; 102-47

ELON, N.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball team dropped its preseason exhibition against Division I Elon, 102-47, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Phoenix are one year removed from dominating play in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with a regular season and conference tournament title while facing West Virginia in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix fell, 75-62, in their first-ever appearance in the NCAA's.

The Trojans placed two players in double-digits with sophomore Madison Baggett scoring a team-high 15 points. Baggett also grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists and was credited with three steals. Junior Ace Easter dropped in 13 points including three of the five made three-point baskets for the Black and Gold.

Capping off the scoring for Anderson was sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer (9), senior Kaylee Koerperich (4), senior Alexis Dillard and freshman Taylor Hair (2) and senior Jasmine Raynor and junior Erika Martin (1).

Elon placed five players in double-figures with sophomore Ra'Shika White scoring a game-high 22 points. White narrowly missed a double-double swiping a game-high nine rebounds on the evening. Senior Shay Burnett netted 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting while sophomore Jada Graves contributed 14 points in 25 minutes of action. Freshman Saadia Munford dropped in 12 points while senior Malaya Johnson chipped in 10 points for the Phoenix.

Head Coach Jonathon Barbaree's Thoughts: "Elon is a great team and are very athletic and long which altered a lot of our shots", said Barbaree. "You have got to make the shots to win. With the exception of the fourth quarter, I thought we showed spurts of great offense and defense, but ultimately their size was too much."

"Overall, this was a great experience for us, it gives us some good film to use to help us get better and to grow as a team", noted Barbaree. "It was also great to see the support coach Razor received from her alma mater and for her to be able to show how she in growing in her profession."

Anderson begins its 2017-18 campaign on Friday when it plays Clayton State in the SAC/PBC Challenge hosted by Wingate. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
