Lady Trojans Rally To Beat Queens

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University rallied from an eight-point deficit with eight minutes remaining to beat Queens University of Charlotte 68-65 Wednesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 5-7 overall and 5-3 in Conference Carolinas, led 34-30 at the half. But Queens used a 20-6 run to take a 55-47 lead with 8:06 to play. Trailing 63-57 with 2:57 remaining, the Lady Trojans started their winning rally. A 3-point basket by Keana Boyd cut the Queens lead to one -- 64-63 -- with 1:17 to play and two free throws by Kirsten Peterson gave Anderson a 65-64 lead with 35 seconds left. A breakaway layup and free throw by Shanice Wilson sealed the victory for Anderson with 11 seconds left. Anderson was led by Alexa Neal with 22 points. Neal was 7-for-14 from the field and had eight assists. Boyd finished with 14 points, Genia Holbrook added 12, and Peterson finished with a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Queens, 5-6 and 4-2, was led by Cecilia Tchangoue with 14 points, Ashley McGuirt with 13 points, and Shakaria Hamilin with 10 points. There were 15 lead changes and 10 ties in the game. Queens shot 46 percent from the field to Anderson's 41 percent. Queens was 12-for-26 from the field in both halves. Anderson scored 28 points in the paint and had 14 second-effort points. Anderson travels to St. Andrews Presbyterian Saturday afternoon.
