Mount Olive Women Beat AU, 62-49

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Brittney Robich scored a career-high 26 points and Tomeka Prichard scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half as Mount Olive defeated Anderson University 62-49 in Conference Carolinas women's basketball Saturday at Kornegay Arena. Saturday's contest was a rematch of the championship game of last year's Conference Carolinas Tournament as Mount Olive captured its first-ever conference title. Robich scored the game's first eight points and Mount Olive (8-3 overall, 4-2 Conference Carolinas) raced out to a 22-4 lead early in the first half. Anderson (4-7, 4-3) trimmed the margin after Korie Sellers and Keana Boyd both went 2-for-2 from the line. But Prichard and Shequanta McGee both hit three-pointers and the Trojans took their biggest lead of the half at 30-10. Boyd keyed a late run for Anderson, but Prichard answered with her fourth three-pointer of the half and Mount Olive went into the locker room with a 33-19 halftime lead. Prichard was recognized prior to the game for scoring her 1,000th career point last Saturday against Limestone. Anderson pulled within 33-23 early in the half before Robich answered with back-to-back three-pointers. Prichard's three-pointer capped an 11-0 run and gave Mount Olive a 44-23 lead. Robich added two more three-pointers as Mount Olive held a 55-38 lead. Boyd keyed a late comeback for Anderson, but Robich hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Mount Olive connected on a combined 12 three-pointers, 11 coming from Robich (six) and Prichard (five). Robich was also 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Boyd led Anderson with 15 points, while Ashley Abed added 10 points. Egle Bauzaite scored eight consecutive points for Anderson during a stretch midway through the second half. The win was the second in a row for Mount Olive, which posted a road win Thursday at previous conference unbeaten Belmont Abbey.
