AU Vanquishes Valkyries

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Keana Boyd came off the bench to score 25 points and Alexa Neal added 22 points to lead Anderson University to an 81-63 victory over Converse in a Conference Carolinas game Friday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference, took the lead at the 14:55 mark of the first half and never reliquished it. The Lady Trojans built a 17-point lead late in the first half and led by as many as 19 points late in the second half. Boyd, a senior from Newberry, has scored 23 or more points in Anderson's last three games. She was 9-for-17 from the field, 5-for-6 from the line, and pulled down six rebounds. Neal, a sophomore from Greensboro, N.C., was 8-for-15 from the field and handed out four assists. Kirsten Peterson just missed a double-double for the Lady Trojans with 11 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked four shots. Converse, 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference, was led by Sydney Brown with 22 points and Ashley Arff with 16 points. Brown was 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Led by Peterson, Anderson won the boards, 48-37. Anderson had 19 rebounds off the offensive glass which led to 18 second-effort points. Anderson scored almost half of its points -- 38 -- in the paint. The Lady Trojans shot 52 percent in the first half to build a 45-30 halftime lead. AU finished the game at 47 percent from the field while limiting Converse to 32 percent. Thanks to Boyd, the Anderson bench outscored the Converse bench, 31-12.
