Lady Trojans Fall At Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey outscored Anderson 39-26 in the second half after the two teams were deadlocked at 26 at intermission as the Crusaders earned a 65-52 victory over the visiting Lady Trojans in a Conference Carolinas game Tuesday night. The Abbey improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while Anderson slips to 0-3, 0-1. Belmont Abbey shot 33.3 percent (19-57) for the game, matching that total in both halves as junior guard Courtney Naquin and freshman forward Kala Nwachukwu led the way with 14 points apiece. Naquin shot 2-12 from the field but sank eight of nine free throw attempts. She also had five assists and a pair of steals in 40 minutes. Nwachukwu added 14 points on 4-8 shooting in just 9:55 of action. Asha Hardaway recorded a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds as the Abbey controlled the glass, 43-34. Eighteen of Belmont Abbey's rebounds were off the offensive glass. Anderson was led by Keana Boyd's 17 points, while Ashley Abed added 13 as the Lady Trojans shot 37.5 percent (18-48) from the field.
