Lady Trojans Pull Out Victory Over Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Mikala Fogle-Wilson connected on a 3-point goal in the final minute to give Anderson University a five-point advantage and the Lady Trojans held on for 71-64 victory over Limestone in a CVAC game Thursday night. "We stress in practice every day that the offense is not always there, so you have to play defense and rebound every game," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "We showed a lot of composure down the stretch. We executed and we got the shots we wanted. It was a hard-nosed, blue collar win." Anderson, 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC, led 35-22 at the half, but Limestone rallied to take a 62-60 lead with four minutes to play. Anderson shot just 25 percent from the field but the Lady Trojans dominated the boards (54-36) and made 37 of 47 free-throw attempts. Anderson was led by Deidra Langston with 19 points. Langston was 13-for-16 from the line and had eight rebounds before fouling out. Keana Boyd added 15 points, and Latrice Thomas chipped in 11 for Anderson. Genia Holbrook was the game's leading rebounder with 10. Twenty-two of Anderson's 54 rebounds were off the offensive glass. "Keana played 38 minutes at the point and had just two turnovers," Dow said. "That's a great job running the team." Limestone, 1-5 and 1-1, placed four players in double figures. Tiffany Jones and Monica Adams had 12 points apiece and Blanca Gonzalez and Lindsay Kyle had 11 points apiece. Anderson limited Limestone to 34 percent from the field and held the Lady Saints 20 points below their season scoring average. Anderson will play its first home game of the season Saturday against Belmont Abbey. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. Box: Anderson 71, Limestone 64 Anderson University Women's Basketball Statistics
