Trojans Split South Atlantic Conference Contest with Wingate

Anderson, S.C.- Anderson University softball split a conference doubleheader contest with Wingate dropping game one, 7-0, while winning the nightcap, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson moves to 23-17 overall and 5-7 in conference action while the Bulldogs move to 28-14 overall and 7-7 in SAC play.

Wingate limited the Trojans to just two hits while pounding out 12 hits. The Bulldogs scored a single run in both the second and fourth innings before opening the game up with a three-run fifth. Wingate tacked on two more runs in the seventh to set the final score, 7-0.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (13-6) was tagged with the loss giving up nine hits while striking out four. Freshman Kayson Boatner pitched the final two innings giving up three hits and two runs.

Anderson was able to link together back-to-back hits to push across four runs in game two. The Trojans scored one in the first and three runs in the fourth while giving up one run to the Bulldogs in the fifth inning.

Notables

Boatner went 1-for-3 with a two-run homerun, knocking it over the fence for the 12th time this season. Senior Kasey Grant went 1-for-2 while drawing a walk and crossing the plate for the Black and Gold.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (10-11) pitched a solid seven inning allowing six hits while striking out three.

Anderson remains home to welcome South Atlantic Conference opponent Mars Hill on Tuesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 pm.
