Trojans Settle for Split with Carson-Newman

Anderson, S.C.- Anderson University softball used solid pitching and timely hitting to earn a 4-1 win in game one over South Atlantic Conference opponent Carson-Newman before falling in the nightcap, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.  

Anderson moves to 19-13 overall and 3-5 in conference action while the Eagles move to 15-6 overall and 2-6 in SAC play.

Game One:   Anderson 4   Carson-Newman 1  

Anderson scored two runs in the second and fifth innings allowing only a lone run in the third inning.

Notables

Senior Breanna Hagerty and freshman Gracie William each batted 1-for-2 with Hagerty scoring and driving in a run.  

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (11-4) gave up four hits, striking out four while issuing on walks to pick up the win.

- Anderson and Carson-Newman each recorded four hits.

- The Eagles committed one error on the game.

- The Eagles left four runners on base while the Trojans left two.

Game Two    Carson-Newman 3   Anderson 2

Carson-Newman built a 2-0 lead through five and a half innings of play with the Trojans knotted the game up at two apiece with a two run sixth. The Eagles were able to push across a solo run it the top half of the seventh and hold off the Black and Gold to take game two of the doubleheader.

Notables

Seniors Kasey Grant and Joshlyn Martin and freshman Morgan Charter each collected two hits in game two.
