Trojans Drop Two to Lander

Anderson, S.C.- Anderson softball only recorded three hits on the day to drop two games to nonconference opponent Lander, 2-0, in game one while falling in the nightcap, 1-0, in extra innings on Monday evening at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson moves to 10-6 overall while Bearcats move to 11-4 overall.

Game 1- Lander 2  Anderson 0 

Anderson and Lander played five scoreless innings marked by outstanding pitching and stellar defensive plays on both sides. However, the Trojans had miscues that resulted in two runs which proved to be enough for Lander to put away the Black and Gold, 2-0.

Notables

Seniors Joshlyn Martin and Breanna Hagerty and freshman Josie NesSmith each recorded a hit with Martin ripping a double for the only three hits of the game.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (6-2) suffered the loss in a one-hit five strike out outing. Both Bearcats runs were unearned.

Game Two- Lander 1   Anderson 0 (9 innings)

Lander scored on a two-out single in the top of the ninth inning to apply pressure to the Trojans in their bottom half.

Anderson's first two batters made contact with the ball while out of the box to give Lander two quick outs with the final out being a pop up second.

Notables

Freshman Morgan Charter and Martin recorded the only two hits. Charter hit a two-out double while Martin drilled a one-out triple in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (4-4) scattered eight hits while striking out six batters.

Anderson will welcome nonconference opponent Mount Olive on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is noon.
