Trojans Pick Up Split with Limestone; Head Coach Tommy Hewitt Earns 400th Career Win

Anderson, S.C.- Pitchers from both schools weren't showing any love on Valentines Day limiting batters to a combined 18 hits on the day while the Anderson University softball team dropped the first game of the nonconference doubleheader against Limestone, 5-1, regrouping in game two to win, 3-1, on Thursday afternoon the AU Softball Complex.

With the split, Anderson moves to 8-4 overall while Limestone suffered its first loss of the season to drop to 7-1 overall.

Game 1- Limestone 5   Anderson 1

The Trojans committed a few costly errors to help the Saints score five runs.

Anderson scored a lone run in the bottom of the third to lead for a brief moment before the Saints capitalized on a miscue to push across a run in the top of the fourth.

Limestone would use an error to extend the inning with the next batter hitting a three-run homerun. The Saints added another run in the seventh inning to secure their seventh win of the season.

Notables

Seniors Joshlyn Martin and Breanna Hagerty and freshman Morgan Charter each recorded a double to have the only three hits of the game. Martin's double scored the only run for the Black and Gold.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (3-3) suffered the loss giving up just five hits while striking out eight.

Game Two- Anderson 3   Limestone 1

Anderson scored two runs in the bottom of the third using a walk and two singles.

The Saints cut the lead in half on a solo shot to left before recently named player of the week, Kayson Boatner drilled a solo homerun to put the Trojans up, 3-1.

Limestone got runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings with the Black and Gold not allowing any runner past second to secure the 3-1 victory.

Notables

Boatner batted 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI while junior Meghan Majeski, freshman Gracie Williams and Martin each collected a hit apiece.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (5-1) picked up her fifth win of the season giving up five hits while striking out eight.

-Limestone stranded six runners.

- Neither team committed an error.

SPECIAL HONOR

Anderson's head coach Tommy Hewitt earned his 400th career win with the second game, 3-1, victory. Hewitt is currently in his 14th season with his first career win occurring on Feb. 14, 2006 in an 11-3 triumph over North Greenville. All 400 victories collected has come as a Trojan.

Anderson remains home to face nonconference opponent Converse on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.
