Softball Earns Two Wins to Wrap Up Flagler Classic

ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA.- Anderson University softball bounced back to earn two wins on the final day of the Flagler Classic winning game 1, 6-1, against Flagler while winning game two, 9-5, over Lynn on Sunday afternoon.

Anderson moves to 2-2 overall on the young season.

Game 1- Anderson 6   Flagler 1

The Trojans broke open a 1-1 tie after five innings of play with a four-run sixth inning.

Anderson added one run in the seventh to set the final score, 6-1.

 Notables

Freshman Josie NeSmith went 2-for-2 driving in the first run for the Trojans while freshman Gracie Williams batted 2-for-3 scoring a run in the sixth inning. Freshmen Kayson Boatner went 2-for-4 drilling her second homerun of the season while freshman Morgan Charter went 1-for-2 hitting her first career homerun. Senior Joshlyn Martin batted 2-for-4 with a double and a single while scoring two runs in the win.

Sophomore Harlie Duncan (1-1) pitched a complete game giving up just three hits while striking out 10

Key Stats

 -The Trojans outhit Ga. Southwestern 11-3.

- Anderson committed just one error.

- Anderson and Flagler left eight and seven runners on base, respectively.

 Game Two- Anderson 9   Lynn 5

Anderson jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning of play. Lynn scored two runs in the top of the third to close the gap, but the Trojans answered back with two runs in their half of the inning, 5-2.

The Black and Gold exploded for four runs in the fifth inning to push the score to 9-2.

The Fighting Knights made some noise in the seventh inning scoring three runs before the Trojans ended their rally.

Notables

Senior Kasey Grant went 2-for-2 scoring two runs while senior Joshlyn Martin went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Martin hit a two-run blast in the third inning for her first homerun of the season Freshman Kayson Boatner stayed red-hot going 2-for-3 crossing the plate twice and collecting an RBI. Junior Meghan Majeski went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Sophomore Kayla Pepper (1-1) picked up her first win of the season going the distance. Pepper gave up 10 hits and five runs while striking out four.

Key Stats

-The Trojans committed two errors while Lynn had one miscue.

-Anderson collected 12 hits on the game while Lynn recorded 10 hits.

-Lynn stranded 10 runners.

Anderson will return home on Wednesday to welcome North Greenville to the AU Softball Complex. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5pm.
