HICKORY, N.C.-The Anderson University softball team was swept by No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action dropping game 1, 10-4, and falling, 6-3, in the nightcap on Friday afternoon at Bears Field.
Anderson drops to 24-8 overall and 6-2 SAC play while the Bears move to 30-5 overall and 7-1 in conference action.
Game #1
Lenoir-Rhyne 10, Anderson 4
Anderson was not able to overcome a six-run first inning by the Bears.
The Trojans were able to get four runs back in the top of the second, but the uphill climb proved too much.
Freshman Kayla Pepper (8-4) suffered the loss after giving up six earned runs in just 0.1 innings of work. Senior Randee Bettis relieved Pepper pitching 5.2 innings for the Trojans. Bettis gave up seven hits while striking out three.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Brandi Parks was knocked out of the circle after 1.0 inning of work giving up three hits and four runs in the top of the second inning. Emily Kenley (15-2) pitched the remaining 6.0 innings giving up just two hits and striking out five.
Game #2
Lenoir-Rhyne 6, Anderson 3
The Trojans jumped out to an early 1-0 after their first at-bat of game two. Junior Kasey Grant singled and moved to second after stealing her ninth base of the year. Grant scored later on junior Breanna Hagerty's single to left center.
The Bears evened the score after the bottom half of the second inning scoring another lone run in the third to claim the 2-1 lead.
Anderson tied the game at two apiece after its bat in the fourth inning pushing ahead 3-2 after five and a half innings of play.
Lenoir-Rhyne was able to score two in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to claim the 6-3 win.
Freshman Harlie Duncan (10-2) toed the rubber in game two. Duncan gave up nine hits and four earned runs while walking zero batters.
Lenoir-Rhyne Parks (14-3) was given a second chance start in game two giving up six hits and one earned run in 7.0 innings of work.
NOTABLES
- Grant was 4-for-8 on the day while scoring two runs for the Trojans.
- Senior Cailah Niles went 2-for-5 with a single, double and three walks.
- Freshman Abigail Webb went 2-for-3 in game one with two singles, a run scored and an RBI.

Anderson on the road to wrap up the four-game road swing when it travels to Wingate on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
