ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University softball team overpowered Converse in a non-conference doubleheader sweep winning game one, 8-0 (5 innings) and game two, 14-0 (5 innings) on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

GAME #1

Anderson 8, Converse 0 (5 innings)

INSIDE THE BOX

Leading the Trojans at the plate, freshman Meghan Majeski, junior Cailah Niles and senior Augie Pena each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Niles added her second home run to the young season while Pena recorded her first round-tripper of the year. Sophmore Michaela Smith (1-for-2) drilled a two run shot over the left field fence for her first home run of the year.

Junior Randee Bettis (1-0) got the nod in game one picking up her first win of the season. Bettis pitched a five inning complete game giving up just three hits while striking out nine.

Converse's Hannah Boring (0-1) suffered the loss for the Valkyries in three innings of work. Boring gave up six hits and five runs.

GAME #2

Anderson 14, Converse 0 (5 innings)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Leading the Trojans at the plate, Majeski, freshman Mattie Hamilton, sophomore Breanna Hagerty, and junior Trudi Shuman each picked up two hits in game two. Sophomore Kasey Grant blasted a grand slam in the first inning while Hagerty and Smith added to the home run total for the day (6) each hitting one in the second inning.

Senior Augie Pena (3-0) pitched a solid five inning complete game to earn her third win of the year. Pena only allowed one hit while striking out nine.

Valkyries Marissa Steadman (0-1) picked up her first loss in just two thirds innings pitched. Steadman gave up six hits and eight runs.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE DAY

13 of Anderson's 24 total hits on the day were for extra bases which included six home runs, six doubles, and one triple.

NOTABLES

-As a team, the Trojans are batting .396.

-Grant's grand slam home run was the first of her career.
