Cross Country Readies for Region Preview

ANDERSON, S.C. – With a pair of victories behind them, the Anderson University men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in Saturday's Sixth Annual North Georgia Invitational.

The event will be hosted by the Nighthawks in Oakwood, Ga., site of November's NCAA Southeast Region Championships, and will feature 25 teams and more than 250 runners from schools across the NCAA's Southeast Region, as well as the South Region and including squads from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, Gulf South and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

On the women's side, four of the top-10 teams in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional Rankings are expected to compete, with the Trojans (No. 3), fourth-ranked North Georgia, Augusta (No. 8) and UNC Pembroke (No. 9) running the 6K course.

The men's 8K event will feature third-ranked Augusta, No. 4 Anderson, fifth-ranked Tusculum, eighth-ranked Columbus State and No. 10 UNC Pembroke.

The women's race is slated to start at 8:15 a.m., with the men's race set for 9 a.m.

The Trojans will be making their first appearance at the event in Oakwood and will use the event as a preview of the regional championship course.

Paced by senior Abigail Bozarth's winning effort, the Trojan women claimed the top five spots – and seven of the top nine - at the Southern Wesleyan Warrior Invitational in mid-September, while newcomer Logan Horning led six Trojan men's runners in the top eight spots by finishing first in his first collegiate outing.
