NEW ORLEANS – On the heels of stellar outings at last weekend's South Atlantic Conference Championships, the Anderson University women's and men's cross country teams are ranked fourth and sixth, respectively in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII Regional Rankings, as released Tuesday afternoon.
The Trojan women remained fourth in the rankings for the third consecutive week. Queens, which captured its second straight SAC title last Saturday, stayed at the top of the rankings, while Conference Carolinas Champion Mount Olive, held on to the second spot. North Georgia, the Peach Belt Conference titleholder, was at No. 3.
Wingate captured third at the SAC Championships and came in at No. 5 in the USTFCCCA rankings, while Augusta remained sixth. Georgia College, Flagler, UNC Pembroke were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. The only change in the women's rankings came as Lenoir-Rhyne dropped out of the poll, with Catawba making an appearance at No. 10.
The men's rankings were a little more turbulent, with Mount Olive holding on to the No. 1 slot after claiming the Conference Carolinas Championship and Queens remaining second after winning the SAC title. Augusta and UNC Pembroke, which finished 1-2 in the Peach Belt Championships, stayed steady in the third and fourth spots, respectively.
After finishing as runner-up at the SAC Championships, Wingate edged past the Trojans for the fifth spot, with AU slipping to sixth. Georgia College claimed third at the PBC Championships and jumped three spots to No. 7 in the USTFCCCA poll. Columbus State also moved up one spot and placed eighth in the weekly poll, with Flagler and Lees-McRae making appearances at ninth and 10th, as Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill slid out of this week's poll.
