Track and Field Captures Nine Top-10 Finishes at Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams combined to capture nine top-10 finishes, Friday and Saturday at the Terrier Relays, which were hosted on the USC Upstate campus and at the Spartanburg High School Track Complex.

Freshman Katharine Landry won the women's javelin throw with a career-best toss of 37.18 meters and finished 21st in the women's 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.87.

Sophomore Olivia Evans claimed fifth place in the women's 5,000 meter run, while junior Emily Olson (21:18.26) crossed the finish line in 17th place. Classmate Lydia Gambrell finished 20th in the women's 800 meters in a time of 2:27.09 and sophomore Natalie Ardis claimed 48th place by crossing the finish line in a time of 2:48.73.

Sophomore Olivia Rish (4:52.55) and Hannah Beach (5:04.42) finished sixth and 26th, respectively, in the women's 1,500 meters. Senior Madison Seay was 21st in the women's 400 meters in a time of 1:01.63 and also finished 36th in the women's 200 meters in a time of 27.54.

Freshman Melea Sangel finished third in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:07.83

On the men's side, freshman Scott Sanford finished third in the javelin throw with a distance of 45.06 meters. Sophomore Robert Jones finished 28th in the men's long jump with a distance of 5.81 meters and claimed 21st in the men's 110 meter hurdles in a time of 17.12.

Sophomore Connor Wheatley finished 31st in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 34.86 meters, with freshman Evan Francis claiming 38th place with a distance of 22.19 meters.

Wheatley also finished 32nd in the shot put with a distance of 11.68 meters and Francis took home 36th place with a toss of 10.74 meters. Senior Anthony Aleruchi claimed 11th place in the discus throw with a toss of 40.10 meters, with Wheatley finishing 39th with a distance of 34.13 meters. Francis finished 55th with a toss of 27.25 meters and Jones (23.95 meters) rounded out the Trojan contingent in 60th place.

Freshman Noah McLain finished 10th in the men's 5,000 meter run in a time of 16:12.65, with sophomore Weston Hutto finishing 14th in a time of 16:33.51.

Sophomore Cameron Owens-Hunter claimed seventh place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:56.80, while classmate Matthew Burgess finished 20th in a time of 2:01.24. Sophomore Philip Quillen (4:06.80) led four Trojans with a 10th-place finish in the 1,500 meters, while sophomore Joey Teachout (4:09.86) was 12th. Sophomores David Rolon (4:35.17) and Hayden Tuten (4:36.34) finished 46th and 50th, respectively.

Junior Jordan Anderson (49.66) finished eighth in the men's 400 meters, with freshman Matthew Hobbs (54.16) claiming 31st place. Anderson also claimed 12th place in the 200 meters in a time of 22.53.

Next up for the Trojans is the Susan Rouse Invitational, which is slated to be hosted by Southern Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday.
