Jones and Landry Compete on Day One as Track and Field Opens Outdoor Slate at 49er Classic

Freshman Katharine Landry competed in the women's heptathlon, while junior Robert Jones got things underway on the men's side in the decathlon, as the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams opened their respective outdoor seasons, Thursday at the Charlotte 49er Classic, which is being held at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Landry finished 11th in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.95 and also claimed 11th place in the high jump with a height of 1.39 meters. The Ashland, Mass., native finished third in the shot put with a toss of 11.30 meters, while again claiming 11th place in the 200 meters in a time of 27.78.

Jones finished sixth in the men's 100 meters in a time of 12.14 and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.49 meters, while claiming fourth in the shot put with a toss of 9.43 meters. He also finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters and finished fifth in the 400 meters in a time of 54.26.

Anderson will get back in action on Friday at the 49er Classic, beginning with more decathlon events at 9 a.m.
