No. 36 Trojans Drop First Road Contest to No. 21 Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The No. 36 Anderson Trojans (13-4, 9-3 SAC) had their eight-match road winning streak snapped in a 6-0 defeat at No. 21 Wingate (17-2, 12-0 SAC). AU finishes the regular season with a 9-3 conference record, and will be the 4th seed in the upcoming SAC Tournament next weekend, while Wingate has claimed the 1st seed on the heels of a 12-0 record.

Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the two teams began the match with singles. Doubles matches were not played.

To start things off, Wingate quickly won a pair of matches at the No. 4 and No. 3 spots, by scores of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-4, respectively.

Following Bulldog wins at No. 2 and No. 5, the match was clinched. Juan Sengariz was engaged in a back-and-forth match with Wingate's Florian Walcher at No. 1, but was defeated by a razor-thin margin in the third-set tiebreak, 10-8. With a win at the No. 6 position, Wingate completed the sweep.
