Trojans Drop Season Opener at Clayton State

Morrow, Ga. - Anderson men's soccer dropped its season opener, 2-1, after giving up two second half goals to Clayton State on Thursday evening at Laker Field.

With the setback, the Trojans drop to 0-1 overall, while Clayton State moves to 1-0 overall.

After a quiet first half of play, the Lakers scored just inside four minutes into the second half of action. Ryan King collected a loose ball and drove it into the back of the net for the first goal of the game.

The Trojans answered back two minutes later with a goal by junior preseason All-Conference selection Harry Ward. Ward was able to fire a long shot from the left side to the back right corner to knot the match up, 1-1.

The Lakers scored the game-winner in the 54th minute of action off of a rebound from a blocked penalty kick by AU keeper Gal Elyashiv. King followed the deflection and found the far post to put Clayton State ahead, 2-1.

Anderson made a push over the next 36 minutes of action, but solid play by the CSU's keeper and the Laker's backline held the Black and Gold at bay.

AU's Elyashiv recorded six saves, including a penalty kick save.
