Trojans Battle Back to Force Extra Play with Carson-Newman; 1-1(2OT)

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. –Anderson University men's soccer team scored a late second half goal to force extra play resulting in a 1-1 double overtime draw against South Atlantic Conference opponent Carson-Newman on Saturday evening at Harvey Stadium.

With the draw, the Trojans move to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-2 in SAC action while the Eagles move to 6-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Anderson outshot the Eagles 20(4) – 18(5) while both teams kicked four corners.

Just two minutes into the second half, the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick following a Trojan foul. Carson-Newman's leading goal-scorer connected for his 6th goal of the season.

The Black and Gold continued to battle hard finally capitalizing on a corner kick by junior Jhon Vacca. Vacca's pass was headed in by junior Ryan Tyrer just inside the 78th minute.

Neither team could find the back of the net over the next 32 minutes resulting in a 1-1(2OT) draw. Both AU's keeper and C-N's keeper recorded saves in both overtimes. Sophomore Gal Elyshaiv was credited with four saves over the course of the match.

Anderson returns home to host SAC foe Wingate on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
