No. 10 Lander Slips Past Trojans with First Half Goal; 1-0

 

GREENWOOD, S.C –Anderson University men's soccer could not overcome the lone first half goal by nonconference opponent No. 10 Lander falling, 1-0, on Wednesday evening at Van Taylor Stadium.

With the loss, the Trojans drop to 1-1 on the young season while Lander improves to 2-0.

Lander's George Knight connected on a pass from Richard Bryan in the 32nd minute to give the Bearcats the 1-0 advantage.

Lander outshot AU 11-4 in the first half with the Black and Gold outshooting the Bearcats 8-3 in the second half of the match.

The Trojans applied pressure in the second half, but despite four shots on goal could not sneak one past LU's keeper. Lander's Jose Eduardo Bomfim recorded six saves on the night to help the Bearcats secure the 1-0 victory.

Anderson's Jhon Vaca blasted three shots with two coming on goal. The trio of Gabriel Homem, Shalev Keter and Johnny Landis were able to get two shots apiece off.

Trojan keeper Gal Elyashiv was credited with five stops on the evening.

The Black and Gold continue nonconference action with they travel to North Georgia on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
