ROCK HILL, S.C. - As the South Atlantic Conference schedule wrapped up on Saturday, Anderson University men's and women's soccer learned their conference tournament fates as both squads will play in the quarterfinal match of the 2017 SAC Tournament, announced by the league office late Saturday evening.
The Anderson University men's soccer team finished the SAC regular season (4-5-1) in the No. 6th slot and will travel to No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne on Tues. October, 31 for 7 p.m. kick-off. The men's team enters the postseason on a two-match win streak, with victories over Southern Wesleyan and Mars Hill.
Anderson returns to the SAC Tournament after failing to reach it for the first time last season. Since joining the SAC in 2010, the Black and Gold have reached four tournament finals while winning three SAC Tournament titles.
Lenoir-Rhyne finished the season with a 6-2-2 conference record and tied with the Trojans, 1-1, in double overtime on Oct. 7th at Moretz Sports Complex.
On the women's side, Anderson returns to the tournament for the fourth year in a row after a one-year hiatus in 2010 and 2013. The Trojans with a SAC record of 5-5 claimed the sixth position. Anderson will travel to the No. 3 seeded Queens Royals on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kick-off. The Trojans will be seeking their first win over the Royals in program history while looking to avenge a 1-0 setback to the Royals at Dickson Field on Oct. 18th.
Tuesday's matchup will mark the first time Anderson and Queens will link up in the conference tournament since joining the SAC in 2010. Queens finished the season with an 8-2 SAC mark.
The 2017 South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Soccer Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Tuesday, Oct. 31 before moving to Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on Nov. 3 and 5. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Soccer Tournament.
