Trojans Drop Heartbreaker at Erskine; 3-2 (2OT)

DUE WEST, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer dropped a, 3-2 double overtime heartbreaker to nonconference rival Erskine on Wednesday evening in Due West.

With the loss, the Trojans slip to 4-4 overall while Erskine improves to 4-5 overall. The Flying Fleet also even up the Beville Cup Standing at one apiece with the victory.

The Black and Gold jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 9thth minute of the match. Junior Gabriel Homem scored his first goal of the season finding the back of the net for Anderson. Erskine rallied right back scoring just two and a half minutes later on a goal by Daniel Jonna assisted by Luke Randle.

Anderson was able to claim a 2-1 lead scoring four minutes into the second half. Junior Cameron Emerson scored his second goal of the season and potential first game-winner of the year.

The Flying Fleet stopped the momentum scoring the equalizer in the 75th minute when Alex Mushata and Dario Pavon connected to even the score up at 2-2.

Anderson outshot Erskine in regulation 10-8 while the Flying Fleet outshot the Trojans 4-1 in the extra periods. Overall, the Black and Gold held a slight advantage in corner kicks, 7-6.

Erskine ended the match in dramatic fashion. With just 26 seconds remaining in the match, Matt Perry's cross was headed in by Dario Pavon for the game-winner and Pavon's second goal of the match.

The Trojans return to action on Saturday when they welcome South Atlantic Conference opponent Carson-Newman. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.
