CAMDEN, S.C. – Junior Jake Miller fired a second-round 1-over-par 71 to pace the Anderson men's golf team, as the Trojans sit in 10th place after Monday's second round of the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Championship, which is being hosted by Coker at the par-70, 6,455-yard Camden Country Club.
Newberry, which is seeking its first SAC title since 2011, continues to lead the three-day event, and is three strokes in front of Queens, which overtook the host Cobras for second place. Coker trails the Royals by 10 shots, while Lenoir-Rhyne vaulted from ninth place into the fourth spot on Monday. Lincoln Memorial, the highest nationally-ranked team in the league at 10th, is fifth, while 14th-ranked Carson-Newman is sixth. Wingate remains seventh, with Catawba holding the eighth slot.
Tusculum, Anderson and Mars Hill finished out the 11-team field.
Newberry's Harry Bolton (66-73=139) is 1-under for the tournament and leads a trio of golfers - teammate Adrian Villiger, Queens' Henry Bryden and Lenoir-Rhyne's Dawson Walker - by just one two shot following Monday's second round. Coker's Wanjoo Lee and Queens' Jonathan Noble are tied for fifth – just three strokes off the pace set by Bolton.
Three more players, including Miller, are deadlocked in seventh place – five shots behind.
Miller, who began the day tied for 20th, jumped into the share of seventh place following Monday's second round, with senior Hunter Parks firing a second-round 7-over-par 77 and sharing 41st place. Junior Brady Cox is tied for 46th place after posting an 80 on Monday, while junior Drake McAlister carded an 84 and sits in a tie for 49th place entering Tuesday's final round. Senior Cole Jefferys trimmed five shots off Sunday's first round by carding a second-round 78 and is alone in 51st place.
Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole tournament is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m.
