MORGANTON, N.C. – Paced by sophomore Cal Brock's 2-under-par 138 on the day, the Anderson University men's golf team is tied for eighth place following the first two rounds of the 54-hole Donald Ross Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne at the par-70, 6,718 yard, Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.
The host Bears and Newberry are atop the leaderboard and are 10 shots in front of third-place Southern Wesleyan. Mars Hill is six shots further back in fourth place, while North Greenville and Erskine are fifth and sixth, respectively. Mount Olive is seventh, with Catawba and AU tied in the eighth slot.
Belmont Abbey, Emmanuel, Milligan, Chowan and Fayetteville State finished out the 14-team field.
Brock carded a 1-over-par 71 in the day's opening round, then equaled his best round of the fall season with a 3-under 67 over the second 18 holes and sits in a five-way tie for second, just two strokes behind North Greenville's Alex Parker. Six additional golfers are within four shots of Parker.
Junior Jake Miller fired a two-round, 5-over-par 145 and shares 23rd place, while sophomore Colt Martin carded an 8-over-par 148 and is tied for 38th heading into Tuesday's final round.
Junior Drake McAlister posted an opening-day 165 and is tied for 90th place, with senior Grayson Bell sharing 92nd place following a two-round 166.
The final 18 holes are slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
