Men’s Golf Paces the Field after Day One of AU Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by junior Jake Miller's 2-under-par-70, the Anderson University men's golf team is in first place following opening-round action at the AU Invitational Monday, which is being hosted at the 6,961 yard, par-72 Cobb's Glen Country Club layout.

Anderson leads the two-day event by one stroke over longtime rival Erskine, while Southern Wesleyan is five shots further back in third place. Erskine (B) holds the fourth slot, with Emmanuel in fifth place. Spartanburg Methodist and Bob Jones University rounded out the seven-team field, after Cape Fear Community College was forced to withdraw and return to the Tar Heel State due to the impending threat from Hurricane Florence.

Miller, the lone golfer to card a below-par score, leads teammate Colt Martin and Southern Wesleyan's Eric Shea by three shots heading into Tuesday's second round. Erskine's Zach McLain and Callum Watson are tied for fourth place, one shot further back.

AU senior Grayson Bell and sophomore Cal Brock are tied for 14th after notching first-round 77s, with senior Cole Jefferys in 21st place following a 79. Junior Brady Cox is in 27th place after posting an 83, with classmate Drake McAlister (86) in 32nd and newcomer Kyle Ketcham in 33rd place.

Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
