Miller Finishes Tied for 12th at South Carolina Golf Association Amateur Championship

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Anderson University rising junior Jake Miller was one of 15 golfers in the field to card a below-par score on Sunday and finished tied for 12th at the 87th South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship. The four-day event was hosted at the Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course on a par-71, 6,692 yard layout.

After sharing 73rd place following last Thursday's first round, Miller surged up the leaderboard by sandwiching below-par scores on both Friday (67) and Sunday (70) around a 73 in Saturday's third round. The Anderson native finished with a four-round 286 – just a pair of strokes above par – while offsetting a bogey on Sunday's par-4 12th hole with birdies on No. 5 and No. 7.

Columbia's William Harwood (268) failed to finish with a 66 for the first time of the tournament and carded a final-round 70, while holding off Easley's Sawyer Mills (269) by one stroke to earn the championship. First-round leader, Jake Carter (274), was five shots further back with Lexington's Caleb Proveaux and Daniel Island's Jeremy Grab capturing a share of fifth place.

The AU golf team will begin its fall slate by hosting the AU Invitational, Sept. 10-11, at Cobb's Glen Country Club.
