TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Paced by sophomore Jake Miller's 1-over-par 145, the Anderson men's golf team is in 12th place following opening-day action at the Southern Tide Intercollegiate, Monday at the 6,952 yard, par-72 Green Valley Country Club layout.
The two-day event, three-round event, which is being co-hosted by Limestone and Coker, has the Saints leading the 15-team field by two strokes over North Greenville. Lincoln Memorial is 10 shots further back in third place, while Mount Olive holds the fourth slot. Limestone (B) is fifth, while Belmont Abbey and North Georgia are sixth and seventh, respectively.
Coker and King are eighth and ninth, respectively, with Erskine, Clayton State, Anderson, Queens, Southern Wesleyan and Flagler rounding out the field.
North Georgia's Logan Archer, Belmont Abbey's Nick Stafford, Limestone's Brett Krekorian and North Greenville's Chase Fisher are all tied atop the individual leaderboard after firing 3-under-par 141s on the day. Ten additional golfers, including Miller, are within four shots of the leaders entering Tuesday's final round.
Miller (74-71=145) is in a five-way tie for 10th after equaling his season low in today's second round. Freshman Cal Brock (72-79=151) shares 37th place, while fellow freshman Colt Martin (76-76=152) is tied for 45th place. Senior Forrest Fowler (79-81=160) is tied for 72nd place and sophomore Brady Cox (83-83=166) rounded out the Trojan contingent in 77th place.
Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
