Boynton Named First-Team Academic All-District

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University senior guard Andrew Boynton has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), early Thursday afternoon.

The team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Boynton has played in every game this season, while starting 18 contests. He is sixth on the team with his eight points per game average and is fourth on the squad with his 79.5 percent free throw accuracy, while leading the team by shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc.

The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., native netted a season-high 16 points in late January and notched a double-double with 15 points and a career-best 12 rebounds in the Trojans' comeback win over Newberry in mid-January. He has reached double-figure scoring in 10 contests this season and off the court, Boynton is a six-time member of the Dean's List.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
