Ellis Named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After pouring in in a career-high 37 points against Lincoln Memorial and following up by netting 26 points in the win over Lenoir-Rhyne, senior guard Gage Ellis has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday morning.

Ellis averaged 31.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per qame in the two conference games last week. The Greenville, S.C., native led all scorers in the double-overtime setback to LMU, while dropping in a career-best 21-of-23 free throws against the Railsplitters.

The 6-foot-3 guard followed up three days later by notching his second double-double in three games with a game-high 26 points and equaled his career-high by pulling down a game-best 10 rebounds in AU's win over Lenoir-Rhyne.

Ellis was 17-of-32 (53.1%) from the field on the week and connected on 27-of-31 (87.1%) from the free throw line, including a career-best 21-of-23 free throws against LMU. He pulled down 17 total rebounds in the two contests, while swiping seven steals.

Ellis has started all 10 games this season, while averaging more than 33 minutes per game. He is second in the league in scoring (22.8 ppg.), third in steals per game (2.0), third in free throw percentage (88.7%), eighth in field goal accuracy (58.1%) and 19th with 5.4 rebounds per contest.

The weekly honor is the first for Ellis and the first for a Trojan men's basketball player since the 2016-17 season, when Randall Shaw earned the accolade.

The Trojans will get back on the hardwood, Wednesday afternoon, when Southern Wesleyan invades the Abney Center. Tip-off versus the Warriors is scheduled for 4 p.m.
