BREVARD, N.C. - Paced by junior center Taylor Shugart's second double-double of the season, Anderson ran past Brevard, 90-66, in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium.

The Trojans never trailed as they began the second-half of their league schedule with their second straight win. Anderson (13-7, 7-3 SAC) entered the day in a tie for second in the league standings, one game ahead of the Tornados ((7-8, 5-5 SAC).

AU evened its road record on the season, while avenging an earlier one-point loss at the hands of the Tornados, while handing Brevard its fifth consecutive setback.

The Trojans went on a 19-7 run over a seven minute span in the first half to break the game open and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Guard Nick Trull's 3-pointer ignited the outburst, giving AU an 18-11 lead at the 10:09 mark of the half and followed junior center Taylor Shugart's jumper with another trifecta to boost the Trojans' cushion to 25-11 with 7:32 left in the opening frame. Junior forward Tyrell McDowell capped the run with five of his 13 points on the afternoon, as AU built a 34-18 cushion with less than four minutes remaining in the first half.

Shugart led all scorers with 18 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, while Trull added 16 points. Senior guard Brandon Young tallied 14 points, with Trey Britton and Kevis Cornwell netting 13 apiece. Freshman guard Denzail Jones handed out a game-high five assists.

Anderson returns to the Tar Heel State on Wednesday to face Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory. Tip-off versus the Bears is slated for 8 p.m. at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
