Trojans Pick Up Road Win Past North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Junior Oskars Ernsteins paced six Trojans in double figures and the Anderson men's basketball team opened a five-game road swing by downing North Georgia College and State, 91-81, in non-conference action Tuesday night at Memorial Hall. The Trojans (6-1) showed little ill effect of playing their first road contest in a month, as Brandon Young open the contest by knocking down a trey and Anderson never trailed in the contest. Kevis Cornwell's jumper in the paint with 13:10 remaining in the first half snapped a 16-16 tie, and AU went on to build a nine-point cushion midway through the frame. North Georgia (3-5) pulled to within two before the break, but it was as close as the Saints would get, as Anderson pushed out to a 78-57 advantage, its largest of the night, with more than seven minutes on the clock. But the home team refused to go away and chipped the AU lead to single digits with 1:28 remaining. Nick Trull and Brandon Young combined to sink all six clutch free throws inside the final minute to hold off the Saints. "We played well," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "We have a lot of players who can score. It got interesting but we made the shots and took care of the ball when we needed to." As a team, Anderson scorched the nets by shooting an impressive 55.6 percent (30-of-54) from the field, including 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from 3-point range. North Georgia out-rebounded the Trojans, 35-32 on the night and turnovers were even with each team committing 21 miscues. Ernsteins paced the Trojans' attack with 18 points on the strength of 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, while Trey Britton and Brandon Young each added 15 points. Nick Trull tossed in 14 points, going a perfect 8-of-8 from the line and dished out a game high six assists. Tony Anderson chipped in 12 points and Kevis Cornwell netted 11 points. Anderson travels to Columbus State on Friday, with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. versus the Cougars.
