Trojans Run Past Pfeiffer, 122-119

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Brandon Young scored 31 points and Kevis Cornwell and Nick Trull added 23 points apiece to lead Anderson University to a 122-119 overtime victory over Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas game Thursday night. The 122-point output is a season high for the Trojans. Anderson's previous high was 117 points in its Dec. 13 double-overtime victory over Carson-Newman. Anderson, 9-7 and 7-2, has won four straight and six of its last seven. Pfeiffer now stands at 8-7, 5-3. Pfeiffer shot 59 percent and made 10 3-point goals in the first half to take a 57-56 lead at the break. Anderson shot 58 percent in the second half and and held the Falcons to 38 percent to tie the game at 107 and send it to overtime. Young, a sophomore from Belmont, N.C., was 12-for-23 from the field and made five treys. For the game, Anderson was 15-for-30 from behind the arc, while Pfeiffer was 14-for-33. The two teams combined to take 174 shots and make 87 field goals. Both teams recorded 50 rebounds. Anderson scored 30 points off 24 Pfeiffer turnovers. Also scoring in double figures for Anderson were Stephen Cobb with 11 and Taylor Shugart with 10. Shugart also had eight of Anderson's 10 blocks. The Falcons placed five players in double figures. Jeff Pettiway led the way with 26 points. He was followed by Robert McGriff with 21, James Crowder with 16, Chris Woods with 13, and Chris Donald with 11. Anderson will face conference leader Barton at home Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
