North Georgia Cruises Past Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. -- North Georgia jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first four minutes and never looked back on its way to an 88-73 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference game Thursday night at the Abney Center. North Georgia, 5-1 overall, shot 53 percent in the first half to build a 45-24 halftime lead. Anderson shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half. Leading 4-0, the Saints drained three 3-point goals -- two by Michael Moynihan and one by LaBrian Lyons -- and got a putback from Myron Talbert to seize a 15-0 lead just 3:12 into the game. Anderson scored just 11 points in the first 12:30 of the game. North Georgia's largest lead in the first half was 24 points -- 43-19 -- with 2:25 remaining. In the second half, Anderson, 3-5 overall, got no closer than 15 points. The Saints were a sizzling 12-for-20 from behind the arc. They made 6 of 10 trey attempts in both halves. North Georgia was led by Lyons with 19 points. He was followed by Moynihan with 15 points and Anthony Rowe and Xavier Trice with 13 points apiece. Brandon Young led Anderson with 19 points. Young was 6-for-8 from the field and also handed out six of Anderson's 12 assists. Nick Trull added 16 off the bench for the Trojans. For the game, North Georgia shot 47 percent from the field while Anderson shot 45 percent. The Trojans followed their 27-percent performance in the first half by shooting 59 percent in the second half. North Georgia scored 21 points off 17 Anderson turnovers and outscored AU in the paint, 32-16. Bench scoring was even at 30 points for each team. North Georgia's Anthony Rowe was the game's leading rebounder with 11. Anderson's next game is Dec. 31 at Division I Gardner-Webb.
