Defending Champ Barton Beats Anderson, 74-64

WILSON, N.C. -- Defending national champion Barton placed three players in double figures on its way to a 74-64 victory over Anderson University in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday night. Barton, 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, took the lead for good midway through the first half and steadily built to a 24-point advantage -- 59-35 -- with 7:24 remaining. Greg Mammel led the Bulldogs with 18 points. He was followed by Aaron Suggs with 14 points and L.J. Dunn with 12 points. Anderson's Brandon Young led all scorers with a career-high 24 points. Kevis Cornwell chipped in 14 points for the Trojans, 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference. Led by Mihai Petcu's 10 rebounds, Barton won the boards, 52-43. Barton scored 30 points off 31 Anderson turnovers. Both teams struggled from the field. Anderson shot 40 percent, while Barton managed just 32 percent.
