First-Place Barton Survives AU Upset Bid

ANDERSON, S.C. - First-place Barton outscored Anderson 16-6 in the second overtime to beat the Trojans 83-73 in a CVAC game Saturday night at the Abney Center. Barton, 17-5 overall and 14-1 in the league, trailed 56-49 with 4:41 remaining in regulation. But the Bulldogs, ranked No. 24 in the Division II coaches poll, outscored the Trojans 9-2 to tie the game at 58 and send it to the first overtime. In the first overtime, Bobby Buffaloe made a 3-point basket with 21 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs a 67-65 lead. But a driving layup by Anderson's Drew Keenan tied the game at 67 with 14 seconds remaining and sent the game to a second overtime. Barton was led by Anthony Atkinson with 31 points. Atkinson was 17-for-21 from the free throw line. Buffaloe added 18, and Brian Leggett chipped in 10 for Barton. Leggett also had a game-high 13 rebounds. Anderson was John LeSueur with 16 points and Kris Fudzinskas and Drew Keenan with 13 points apiece. Both teams shot 40 percent from the field. Anderson is now 3-19, 3-12.
