Smith Earns AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University sophomore hurler Lucas Smith has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday Morning.

Smith, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout to lead the Trojans to a 7-0 win over Augusta, Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

The right-hander is one of only three hurlers in the SAC to toss a complete game this season – and the only one to post a nine-inning shutout.

Smith fanned a career-high 16 batters and allowed just three hits – a pair of doubles and a single – and did not allow a batter to reach third base. He did not walk a batter, while recording the first nine-inning complete game for the Trojans since Austin Todd threw a complete nine-inning game in a 4-1 win over Catawba in the 2018 SAC Tournament. Former standout Thomas Goodman posted two nine-inning efforts during the 2014 campaign.

Smith leads the SAC in strikeouts, strikeouts per game and is third in innings pitched and ranks seventh with a 1.42 ERA.

He is the first Trojan to win the weekly honor this season and the first AU pitcher to capture the accolade since standout reliever Christian Carpenter garnered the award twice last season.
