Trojans Fall to No. 22 Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team opened a three-game South Atlantic Conference series by dropping a 20-1 decision to 22nd-ranked Newberry, Friday night at the Wolves' Smith Road Complex.

Anderson (11-17, 2-8 SAC) dropped its second straight decision and sixth in seven outings, while Newberry (25-7, 9-1 SAC) remained undefeated at home this season by winning its 17th straight home contest. The Wolves have won six straight decisions and eight of their last nine outings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Sophomore Will Lindsey has reached base safely in 15 straight games after going 2-for-3 on the night, with a pair of singles. Cody Adams was 1-for-2 and scored a run, while redshirt sophomore Chandler Castleberry stretched his hitting streak to three games with a sixth-inning single.

Senior John McMicking (1-4) took the loss after allowing nine runs on seven hits, while walking three in 2 1/3 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wolves scored four runs in the first two innings and posted a seven-run third inning to claim an 11-0 lead. They added three runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, while the Trojans avoided the shutout with a solo run in the top of the fifth inning.

UP NEXT
The Trojans and Wolves will wrap up the three-game series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, with first-pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Smith Road Complex.
