Baseball Readies for Pair of Midweek Contests

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team is set to visit Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday, then return to Memorial Stadium for a brief one-game homestand when Augusta invades the Electric City, Wednesday night.

First-pitch for both games – both home and away - is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Admission to Trojan baseball games is free - No pets are allowed inside Memorial Stadium with the exception of service dogs.

THE TROJANS
Anderson (10-15) has dropped six of its last seven outings and is looking to snap a three-game skid.

Sophomore Dalton Shaw has seen action in 12 games and owns a .381 batting average, while classmate Trevor Weisner is batting .314 in 15 games this season. Another sophomore, Will O'Brien, is hitting .297 in 14 appearances, while sophomore Will Lindsey is batting .297 and has reached base safely in his last 12 games, while leading the Trojans with 18 walks on the year. Freshman Logan Jackson has made nine starts this season and is hitting .286 on the season. Redshirt sophomore Chandler Castleberry leads the team with five home runs and has driven in a team-high 22 runs.

Freshman hurler Lucas Smith has made five relief appearances on the season and has surrendered just four hits in seven innings and has not allowed a run, while striking out a dozen batters and issuing just two free passes. Junior right-hander Christian Carpenter, who has earned South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season, owns a 1.96 ERA and is second in the league with six saves. Senior Will Gee (2-3) possesses a 3.09 ERA and has fanned 34 batters, while walking just 10. Seniors Christian Hendrix and Matthew Stanley also have two wins apiece on the season.

LAST TIME OUT
Anderson struggled offensively, as UNC Pembroke swept a three-game series with the Trojans, with the Trojans getting shut out in the final two games of the nonconference series.

In the series finale on Sunday, UNC Pembroke scored in each of the first four innings, including eighth runs in the third, as the Braves claimed a 13-0 victory at Memorial Stadium.

Lindsey posted one of the Trojans' four singles on the afternoon and also reached base twice on walks. Junior Cody Adams reached base on a single and a walk, with catcher Tyler Berry notching a single and a walk. Weisner added a seventh-inning single.

Junior Austin Todd slipped to 1-2 on the season after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings. He walked one batter and struck out one.

SCOUTING THE WARIORS
Southern Wesleyan (12-13) was tabbed to finish 10th in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 17-32 overall record a year ago and finishing ninth with a 3-21 mark in conference play.

Seniors Quinton Bent and Julio Justo, along with junior Tanner Glass were named Players to Watch in Conference Carolinas this season.

The Warriors took two out of three from Chowan over the weekend and have won four of their last five decisions.

THE SERIES vs. SOUTHERN WESLEYAN
The Trojans and Warriors have met on 53 occasions, with AU leading the all-time series, 34-19. The first-ever meeting between the two programs occurred during the 1998 campaign.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS
Augusta (13-12) was picked to finish 10th in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll after posting a 15-33 overall record a year ago and finishing 10th with an 8-22 mark in conference play.

Newcomer Beau Hanna was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week following the opening week of the season after hitting .583 in three games against Mars Hill with three home runs, eight RBI and a 1.333 slugging percentage. The catcher and designated hitter from Winder, Ga., homered and drove in two in his first college game, then hit two more home runs in the second game with five RBI.

Augusta dropped two straight decisions to Flagler over the weekend after posting a five-game win streak.

THE SERIES vs. AUGUSTA
The Trojans and Jaguars have met 39 times in school history since the 1998 season, with Augusta holding a marrow, 20-19, edge in the all-time series after defeating the Trojans, 14-4, in early February.

UP NEXT
The Trojans will travel to South Atlantic Conference-opponent Newberry for a three-game series over the weekend. First-pitch versus the Wolves on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
