Trojans Drop Nonconference Doubleheader to UNC Pembroke

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team dropped both ends of a nonconference doubleheader with UNC Pembroke, 11-4 and 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson fell to 10-14 on the season, while UNC Pembroke improved to 13-11 with its fourth straight win and fifth victory in six decisions.

Game #1
UNC Pembroke 11, Anderson 4
Chandler Castleberry was 2-for-4 in the opener, with a pair of singles, while Jackson Strange, Trevor Weisner and Chase Stephens each added two singles. Brandon Odachowski drove in three runs, including two with a ninth inning single.

Freshman Gage Gambrell (0-1) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning. He walked two batters.

Game #2
UNC Pembroke 8, Anderson 0
The Trojans were limited to seven baserunners in the nightcap, with Odachowski posted AU's lone hit – a one-out single in the fourth inning.

John McMicking (1-3) absorbed the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings on the mound. He walked two and struck out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
UNC Pembroke jumped out in front early by scoring four runs with two outs in the top of the first inning and added solo runs in both the third and fourth innings, before posting a three-run fifth inning to claim a 9-0 advantage.

The Braves took an 11-0 lead with two more runs in the seventh frame, while AU got on the scoreboard with a solo run in the seventh. The Trojans took advantage of five singles and a walk to post three runs in the ninth and set the final score.

Game 2
The Braves posted crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the second, third and fourth innings and added a solo run in the sixth inning to wrap up the scoring.
